‘It’s Time For A Spiritual Reset.
With Covid-19 painfully and slowly fading from a front line pandemic into something of a bad memory for the history books, I know I’m ready for a deep spiritual reset.
If nothing else covid taught us what was really important, important as a nation, important as a community and important to us as individuals.
Relationships between each other, family and the Lord became so important. Learning to cope with isolation, without the joy of friends and family, or the fellowship of our local church was painful, difficult and for some the mental stress led to all sorts of difficulties.
We found out that some things in life are absolutely essential – our families for love, support and care.
Our friends for that brotherly love, emotional support and care.
I think what surprised everyone one was that the church was deemed essential, for years attending church was seen as a nice thing to do, a place to go to connect and learn about the Lord – but essential?
Most folks would have said no.
Spiritual health has never been in the forefront of the community and if you ask people what they do for their spiritual health, most would just give you a blank stare, not really understanding the question or the answer.
As a Christian, we believe human beings are created with three very distinct parts to our nature:
1) Our spirit – where our every life is maintained- it contains our conscienceless, our communication with self, God and others, and our intuition. The spirit also has deep “spiritual” emotions, it is where our drive comes from and often referred to as our “gut feelings”
2) Our soul is where our spirit and body do all the connecting through our mind, our will and our emotions.
3) Our bodies which connect with the physical world around us.
For years, as a country, we have spent so much on physical health, making sure the ol’ body is in good shape, now finally the soul is getting more recognition through mental health and people are seeing how important it is to be mentally healthy – but the spirit – where do you even go for spiritual health? When have you ever heard someone even ask- how are you doing spiritually?
Most people wouldn’t even know where to go or where to start to gain spiritual health.
If the body is sick we go to the family Physician
If the soul is sick we go to a Pastor, community counselor or if the mental health is caused by something organic we see a psychiatrist.
But where do we go if we are spiritually sick?
As a Christian – the place for us is the church – we go to the Lord – where he provides incredible spiritual programs and support for spiritual health.
He has placed five ministries within the church for spiritual health – teachers, evangelists, apostles, preachers, and prophets for the help and encouragement within the church body.
He gave us beautiful spiritual gifts to help us all, things like miracles, healings, counsel, knowledge and wisdom, so many incredible things.
Then just to top it off the Lord gave us the gift his spirit, to dwell within our spirit – a gift that when received means you are never alone.
His spirit gives so much comfort and strength, as well as imparting to us things like righteousness, peace and joy and with that infilling comes some beautiful fruit, like love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, meekness, and self control, all excellent for spiritual health!
Things that will help you like yourself again and help you cope with family, friends and the world.
So, if you find you are lacking in spiritual health lacking things like love, joy, peace, if you feel constantly unsettled or suffering from anxiety and or outright fear, or perhaps spiritually your ok – for spiritual health I can’t encourage you enough to make your way back to the House of the Lord, the doors are open again and the Lord is waiting with open arms.
It’s time for a spiritual reset. for ourselves, our families and our country.
God Bless!
Psalm 122:1
I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.
King James Version (KJV)’
